Syncomatic synchronises Library metadata and Develop adjustments
Examples of where to use Syncomatic
Outsourced keywording is one reason for using Syncomatic. Imagine you have a large number of JPEGs which someone else has keyworded and added IPTC titles, ratings and other metadata. You now want to apply that metadata to your raw files. It would take a long time to do this manually. You'd select 1234.jpg and 1234.nef (or any other type of raw file) and use the Sync Metadata button, but you'd then have to do it for 1235.jpg, 1236.jpg and so on. Syncomatic does this automatically.
Unsupported raw files
Another possible application is when you have a new camera which has a raw file type which Lightroom doesn’t yet support. What you might do is shoot Raw+JPEG, import the JPEG files, and add your metadata and adjustments. Once Lightroom supports the camera, you can import the raw files and use Syncomatic to update them.
A newer use is with Lightroom Mobile if you are travelling with the iPad and want to import new images. LrM version 1 won't let you import raw files directly, but if you shoot raw+JPEG you can import the JPEGs into Lightroom Mobile, apply star ratings and flags, even make adjustments. When you return to your computer, you can import the raw files into Lightroom and LrM automatically imports the JPEGs with the metadata. Syncomatic's capture time option allows you to sync the metadata from the JPEGs to the raw files.
Syncomatic works on Lightroom 2 or later.
